The Big One Hundred opening weekend at Ashdown Forest
Our story begins at Ashdown Forest, the original Hundred Acre Wood. Among open heathland and winding woodland paths, our curious creature first appears, shaped by this incredible landscape and its wildlife.
Families are invited to explore, play and take part in a weekend of performances, workshops and discovery. Get involved with our Explorer Day, collect your badges by taking part in activities and learning about the Forest and you’ll become an Ashdown Explorer!
Expect a varied programme of creative, wellbeing and nature-based activities will run throughout the day, with something for all ages.
Visitors can take part in hands-on art workshops, poetry, forest bathing, storytelling yoga, movement sessions and bug hunts, alongside opportunities to learn about local wildlife and conservation with organisations including East Sussex Wildlife Ambulance, Ashdown Forest and South Wealden Badger Group. Plus, enjoy giant bubbles, den building and face painting throughout the day.
About Ashdown Forest
Ashdown Forest, located in East Sussex, England, is one of the largest areas of rare lowland heathland in the Southeast and is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) for its unique habitats and biodiversity. Once a medieval hunting forest, today it is celebrated for its wide, open heathland, ancient woodland, and rich wildlife, supporting species that are increasingly scarce across the UK. Owned by the Ashdown Forest Trust, it is managed by the Conservators of Ashdown Forest. Ashdown Forest was the real-life inspiration for the Hundred Acre Wood from A.A Milne’s Winnie-the-Pooh books.
